As the needs of the school change, so do the organization’s funding priorities. Friends of Hampden School #55 works hand-in-hand with school leadership to fund special initiatives such as greening efforts, beyond-the-classroom activities, beautification projects, and classroom grants for teachers. Starting in the 2018-2019 school year, we’re also starting efforts to replace the school’s aging playground, which has a growing list of health and safety concerns. Initial estimates for resurfacing the play area and replacing the equipment total approximately $170,000. Our organization is actively seeking private and corporate donations as well as grant funds for the project. Recent successful projects supported and funded by our organization include:
  • Small classroom grants for teachers
  • Music workshops for students in elementary grades
  • Monarch Sisters Schools Program for students in grade 3
  • Painting of exterior windows and doors
  • Planting of orchard trees through the Baltimore Orchard Project
  • Greetings from HAMPDEN mural
